Of course I had plenty of cat trees and scratching posts all over the place so they got the message. If one of them jumps on the counter while I was preparing their food they will say “No, get down!” And I will give them a treat on the floor when they jump down. Now I only say “No” with a study voice and they get the message. With the carpet, forget it, they are cats and they use their claws to play and run around so if you don’t want your cat scratching the carpet then you should of gotten a bird lol 😆 cats are playful animals and very very smart. You can get a runner and remove your carpet if you like and just put your carpet out when friends come over. Kitties love to run on carpet so that you are going to just deal with it.
